Included here is New Caledonia, an archipelago located in the Western Pacific Ocean which includes the Loyalty Islands and the Isle of Pines.
Most savanna on New Caledonia is dominated by Melaleuca quinquenervia (paperbark tree) known locally as Niaouli Woodland (woodland savanna). Other conspicuous species include Agathis ovata, Dacrydium araucaroides, Grevillea gillivrayi and Gymnostoma chameocyparis. More typical of the untrabasic soils is the endemic Acacia spirorbis (Fabaceae).
