Atlantic Pioneer Saltmarsh with Salicornia (Glastraeth, North Wales)

Saline lands are widely distributed and estimated to account for 10% of the earth’s terrestrial land surface.

Coastal saltmarshes are found in the upper intertidal zone in both temperate and higher latitudes where there is shelter from strong wave action and where sediments are accumulating. They are found on all continents apart from Antarctica.
