Included here is the Congo Basin, eastern Nigeria, eastern Cameroon and the islands of the Gulf of Guinea (including Annobón, Bioko, Príncipe and São Tomé).
Of the endemic and near endemic vascular plants recorded so far there are about 463 species in 238 genera and 92 families but this number is likely to grow significantly as further information becomes available. Currently there are 12 endemic genera (marked red) listed but there are no endemic families. However, Achariaceae and Huaceae are confined to Africa, and Peridiscaceae has a disjunct distribution with one species occurring in South America and others in West Africa.
