Summary
Included here is the Republic of Chile in South America situated in the southwest between the Andes mountains and the Pacific Ocean.
Of the endemic and near endemic vascular plants so far recorded there are about 434 species in 231 genera and 93 families. There are 82 endemic and near endemic genera all marked red but near endemic genera are in italics. There are 3 endemic families (Gomortegaceae, Lapageriaceae and Thyrsopteridaceae) but other familes have limited distributions. The family Aextoxicaceae is confined to Chile and Argentina, Misodendraceae, Quillajaceae and Vivianiaceae to South America, Alstroemeriaceae and Tropaeolaceae to South and Central America and Krameriaceae to the Americas. Other families have disjunct distributions: Berberidopsidaceae is confined to Chile and Eastern Australia, Griseliniaceae to South America and New Zealand, and Tecophilaeaceae to the Americas and Africa.
