Summary
Included here is southern Albania, most of peninsular Greece, Peloponnesus, the Ionian Islands, islands of the Aegean Sea, Crete, Karpathos, Cyprus, the Gallipoli Peninsula, the northern shores of the Sea of Marmara, the coasts of Syria, Lebanon and Palestine. A few enclaves also occur around the Black Sea shores of Anatolia.
Of the endemic and near endemic vascular plants so far recorded there about 1466 species in 356 genera and 66 families. There are 22 endemic genera (marked red) but no endemic families. However, this list is likely to be incomplete and there are reported to be over 20 endemic genera so further information is required.
