Summary
Included here is the Indian Ocean island of Madagascar and its associated islands such as Nosy Be and Nosy Sainte Marie.
This page includes all of the known endemic vascula10plant flora for Madagascar. It has not been possible to separate out the endemic species for the three recognised biogeographic zones. Of the endemic and near endemic vascular plants so far recorded there are about 2118 species in 421 genera and 100 families. There are about 309 endemic genera (marked red) and 5 endemic families (Asteropeiaceae, Barbeuiaceae, Physenaceae, Sarcolaenaceae and Sphaerosepalaceae). The Didiereaceae is a near endemic family with 4 endemic genera in Madagascar and 3 in African. However, there are reported to be over 8000 endemic plants in Madagascar and so this page will be updated as further information becomes available.
