Summary
Included here is the Namib Desert in southern Africa. It represents an extremely arid coastal strip roughly extending from Benguela south to the mouth of the Orange River just south of Alexander Bay.
Of the endemic and near endemic vascular plants so far recorded there are about 211 species in 129 genera and 46 families. There are 4 endemic genera (marked red) and 1 near endemic family (Welwitschiaceae). However, the family Didiereaceae is mainly confined to Madagascar.
