Summary
Included here is the area comprising Somalia, Ethiopia (except some areas along its western border), most of Kenya, a large part of Tanzania, two small areas near the eastern border of Uganda and a small part of the Sudan.
Of the endemic and near endemic vascular plants so far recorded there are about 1079 species in 461 genera and 106 families. There are 64 endemic genera (marked red) but no endemic families although the family Gisekiaceae could be regarded as sub endemic with most of the species occurring within this zone.
