Summary
Included here is a zone mostly between 500-700 km wide extending from the Sudan-Ethiopian border westwards to the Atlantic coast of Senegal. The wider eastern border extends to the basin of Lake Victoria and includes the northwestern corner of Zaire, northern Uganda and two small parts of Kenya.
Of the endemic and near endemic vascular plants so far recorded there are about 56 species in 41 genera and 20 families. There are 3 endemic genera (marked red) but no endemic families. However, this list is likely to be incomplete so further information is required.
