Summary
Included here is a vast African biozone extending between 3 and 26 degrees south and stretching from the Atlantic almost to the Indian Ocean. It includes Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe, southern Zaire (Shaba), most of Angola, much of Mozambique, Tanzania, northeastern Botswana, the eastern part of the Republic of South Africa, Lesotho and most of Swaziland.
Of the endemic and near endemic vascular plants so far recorded there are about 850 species in 354 genera and 90 families. There are 32 endemic or near endemic genera (marked red) but no endemic families. However, members of Achariaceae and Stilbaceae seem to be confined to Africa.
