Central Chinese BioProvince
This BioProvince (as defined by Armen Takhtajan) includes the Guangxi, Guizhou and northern parts of the Yunnan region. In topographical terms it comprises the Tata Shan Mountains, the Szechwan Basin, part of the Kweichow Plateau and southern part of the Great Chinese Plain. Along an east-west axis, it extends the entire length of the Yangtze River. Most of the area experiences a warm, moist temperate climate. The flora is exceptionally rich in endemic taxa with five endemic or near endemic families (Akaniaceae, Eucommiaceae, Ginkgoaceae, Sargentodoxaceae, Trochodendraceae), about 26 endemic or near endemic genera (Bretschneidera, Camptotheca, Changium, Davidia, Eomecon, Eucommia, Fokienia, Fortunearia, Ginkgo, Heptacodium, Kolkwitzia, Melliodendron, Metasequoia, Nothotaxus, Nyssa, Platycarya, Poliothyrsis, Pseudolarix, Pseudotaxus, Psilopeganum, Rhoiptelea, Sargentodoxa, Sinofranchetia, Sinowilsonia, Tapiscia, Tentracentron), and hundreds of endemic species.
