South Iranian BioProvince
Bordering the Persian Gulf and the Golf of Oman, this BioProvince (as defined by Armen Takhtajan) comprises the tropical parts of the Fars in southern Iran and the Mekran (Makran) in southeastern Iran and southern Baluchistan (southwestern Pakistan). Along the Makran coast, the so-called 'Makran subduction zone' is regarded as one of the most extensive on Earth. It is classed as a major seismic hazard but only the eastern part has been active in recent historical times. In terms of climate the area experiences mild winters but very hot, humid summers.
The following accounts for this BioProvince have been written or will be written with particular reference to endemic and locally important species. Accounts available are displayed in green or yellow. Those displayed in red are either in the pipeline or awaiting expert contributions.
